Chronology of the Death of a 29-Day-Old Baby, Experienced Critical and Positive for Covid-19 after a Family Visit

Grid.ID – The accident happened to a 29 -day -old baby, named Beverly Alezha Marlein.

Beverly died after being exposed to Covid-19 and was in critical condition.

Beverly’s story has attracted widespread sympathy on social media because the baby was exposed to the family cluster, which visited Beverly’s house as a tradition of visiting newborns.

From the family visit, 17 people were exposed to Covid-19, including Beverly.

Beverly’s mother, Tirsa, told of the beginning of Beverly’s exposure.

Beverly was born on June 8, 2021. Two days later, she was visited by her extended family.

At birth, according to Tirsa, Beverley was born in good health.

Before giving birth, Tirsa also had a Covid-19 test and the results were negative.

“Born in good condition and healthy. Anyway, there is no disease whatsoever,” said Tirsa telling Kompas.com, Sunday (11/7/2021).

“Finally we went home. We were so happy, a family visited our house (in Cengkareng, West Jakarta),” he continued.

A week after the visit, Tirsa said, there were two family members who were symptomatic, one of them was her husband.

“The PCR test turned out to be both positive. But we don’t know who the virus came from. We don’t know where it came from,” said Tirsa.

Then, a large family in the Tirsa neighborhood conducted a mass Covid-19 test.

In the neighborhood, there are three houses of the Tirsa family which are located close together.

After the mass test, it was discovered that many members of the extended family had been exposed to Covid-19, one of which was Beverly.

“Me, Bev, Bev’s brother, and several family members. Positive results on June 22, 2021,” said Tirsa.

After that, Tirsa consulted a pediatrician regarding Beverley’s exposure.

It was decided to self-isolate at home.

“Independent isolation because (in the beginning) there were no symptoms. Beverly also had no symptoms. But with pediatrician monitoring,” said Tirsa.

Then, on June 27, 2021, Beverly began to develop symptoms and Tirsa took the initiative to go to the pediatrician.

However, at that time it was closed for Sunday. Beverly just received a doctor’s treatment on June 29, 2021 and was declared infected with lungs.

“It turned out that Beverly had a lung infection and was recommended to a hospital with a NICU,” said Tirsa.

Tirsa then looked for a hospital (RS) in Jakarta.

Tirsa said that he visited almost 10 hospitals, but the results were nil.

“Because of conditions like this, yes,” said Tirsa.

That night, he got a call from his friend who told him that one of the hospitals in Tangerang was willing to accommodate Beverly.

Tirsa then communicated with the doctor at the hospital.

“The doctor didn’t say there was a NICU, ‘just come here first, deal with it first. We will try to follow the NICU,” said Tirsa, imitating the doctor’s words.

Then Beverly went straight to incubation, her saturation at that time was below 69 percent.

However, thanks to the help of doctors, Beverly’s condition improved again.

Beverley also got a NICU room that same day.

Tirsa said, while receiving treatment, Beverly’s condition fluctuated.

On June 30, 2021, Beverly was in critical condition due to oxygen saturation at 30 percent.

However, on Wednesday (7/7/2021) afternoon, Beverley’s life could not be saved anymore.

“The doctor said, maybe his heart stopped suddenly because he was so tired,” said Tirsa.

After his death, Beverly underwent the results of the Covid-19 test, namely on July 1 and 7, 2021.

The test results were negative.

“Beverly was negative so he could be buried in a non-Covid-19 TPU,” said Tirsa.

Tirsa does not blame the family. He only appealed to the public to be more protective at times like this.

“Especially those who have babies to take care of their babies. There is no need for crowds or visits,” said Tirsa.

With the Beverly case, Tirsa hopes that this can be a lesson for the community.
