Chronology of Indian Politicians Insulting Prophet Muhammad

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

National Spokesperson Partai Bharatiya Janata (BJP), Nupur Sharma and BJP’s Head of Media Operations, Delhi Naveen Kumar Jindal, issued derogatory comments Nabi Muhammad SAW and his wife Aisha.

Sharma insulted the Prophet Muhammad SAW in a debate on a television station last week. Meanwhile, Jindal was reported to have posted a message on Twitter that also sounded insulting to the Muslim master.

The remarks have sparked clashes in Indian states and sparked protests against demands for the party’s spokesman.

Because of this action the BJP, as written Al Jazeera has taken action against Sharma and Jindal. Sharma was suspended from the main party membership on Sunday (5/6) while Jindal was expelled.

The BJP immediately responded to the actions of its two members by issuing a statement emphasizing that it respects all religions and denounces any insult to any religion.

The BJP is India’s ruling party which is also the party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The controversy has angered social media users in Arab countries calling for a boycott of Indian products. He even accused India of following in the footsteps of France and China in promoting Islamophobia.

The words of the two party members have also drawn criticism from neighboring countries and the Middle East, such as Pakistan, Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also reiterated its condemnation of the behavior of the two men.

“The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation expresses its strong condemnation and condemnation of the recent insults issued by an official in India’s ruling party against Prophet Muhammad SAW,” the 57-member state organization wrote in a statement.
