Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Aircraft Citilink with flight number QG 944 from Jakarta to Batam route emergency landing at Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport Palembang, South Sumatra on Monday (27/9).
VP Corporate Secretary & CS of PT Citilink Indonesia, Diah Suryani said that the flight was diverted at around 16.05 WIB. The reason, he said, was a boy removing the protective cover for the emergency door lever.
“The incident was caused by a child passenger who was in seat row 11 in the flight removing the emergency door lever cover or emergency exit handle cover without the supervision of his parents,” Diah told reporters, Tuesday (28/9).
He said that the cabin crew on the flight then took action according to the procedure. The pilot who received the information then decided to divert the flight to the nearest airport.
Upon arrival at the airport, a technical check is carried out regarding the condition of the aircraft. It is ensured that as a result of these actions the aircraft is in a safe condition.
“Citilink flight operations continue to run normally and all passengers on the flight are in good condition,” he said
The cabin crew on duty then took information from the parents and children who carried out the action. They were also checked by the competent authorities upon landing at Sultan Mahmud Badarrudin II Airport.
The plane that landed, he said, had been inspected by the technical team and the relevant authorities. The results show that the plane is declared safe and can continue its journey.
Therefore, the flight crew decided to continue the flight to Batam. The plane landed safely at its destination.
“Citilink transports children with permission and recommendations from the local COVID-19 Task Force team (Soekarno Hatta International Airport, Tangerang). In this case, Citilink is tasked with re-checking the completeness of prospective passengers’ documents before boarding the plane,” he explained.
