It is important to remember that both a lack and an excess of iodine can cause harm, therefore, it is necessary to adjust the diet for problems with the thyroid gland only after consulting a specialist.

In some cases, an excess of iodine can disrupt the functioning of the thyroid gland. A condition such as hyperthyroidism can lead to disruption of the heart and nervous system.[10].
