Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD): Detecting the Silent Killer

HOLOPIS.COM, JAKARTA – Internal medicine specialist, Dr. Dana Pramudya provides warnings to many people about Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). He said that this disease tends to be overlooked by potential sufferers, because it has no early symptoms.

“CKD often appears without symptoms in the early stages, even at a young age, making it a difficult condition to detect,” said Dr Dana in his statement quoted Holopis.comSaturday (30/9).

Dana explained that there are several factors that influence the emergence of acute kidney disease in humans. Some of them are due to diabetes or excessive blood sugar levels, then there is also high blood pressure, aka hypertension.

Apart from that, it turns out there are also several factors that can contribute to the emergence of this kidney disorder.

“Apart from risk factors such as diabetes and hypertension, there are several other conditions that can also cause kidney problems at a young age, such as Renal Artery Stenosis, Lupus and Glomerulonephritis,” he explained.

Dr. Dana explained that Renal Artery Stenosis is a narrowing of the arteries that supply blood to the kidneys, which can disrupt blood flow and potentially lead to CKD. Meanwhile, autoimmune diseases such as Lupus can also attack the kidneys, causing inflammation and long-term damage that can worsen if left untreated.

Lastly is Glomerulonephritis. Dr. Dana said that this condition is the result of inflammation of the glomeruli which are the kidney’s filtering units. Glomerulonephritis can also contribute to kidney damage and ultimately CKD.

Therefore, Dr. Dana suggested that people carry out an examination as early as possible, so that damage does not occur before carrying out a medical examination.

“The importance of early detection and disease management in preventing and treating CKD cannot be ignored, especially among young people,” he stressed.

Set a healthy lifestyle

On the other hand, Dr. Dana also stressed that apart from identifying and treating risk factors, timely medical care and a holistic approach to kidney health are key aspects in protecting the kidneys from further damage.
