Christopher Salm succeeds Philip Hoffmann on the federal executive board of the Junge Union

Christopher Salm of Sozweiler succeeds Philip Hoffmann on the federal executive board of the Junge Union. The 28-year-old lawyer has been the mayor of Sozweiler for five years and a member of the Tholeyer city council.

At Germany Day in Fulda, Tilman Kuban greeted Philip Hoffmann (34) of the federal executive committee of the Junge Union. Saying goodbye, Kuban described what the young father of the Hoffmann family represents, using the three keywords “business, international business and wine”, thanked him for his commitment and underlined that the political journey had not ended here and that he had still have a lot: Economy, explained Kuban, because the experienced banker and graduate economist Hoffmann “was involved in the Finance and Economy Commission for intergenerational justice and red tape reduction for 6 years and worked for five years as chairman of the powerful Economic and Financial Commission. international, because Hoffmann always maintained an extensive network of political party organizations around the world during his time as a member of the Federal Executive Council and the previous four years as a member of the International Commission and because he always fought for a better Europe. And finally the wine, since Hoffmann fought for agricultural policy and always promoted the wines of the Saarland on the occasion of the numerous events of the Junge Union”.

Even at home, Philip Hoffmann campaigned for the problems that Kuban pointed out when saying goodbye. According to the Junge Union Saar, Philip Hoffmann fought for a reduction in bureaucracy, the abolition of roaming charges in foreign mobile phone networks and the national economy. Hoffmann ran twice for the German Bundestag and is currently the top candidate on the CDU’s list. Philip Hoffmann has shown that his heart beats for Europe during the closure of the borders during the Corona pandemic. First he successfully campaigned for cross-border commuters to be able to work from their office without sanctions, then he successfully campaigned for the opening of additional border crossing points on the German-French border to facilitate border crossings and then he completed a 200-kilometer protest hike for the Schengen Agreement and against border closures, which was much talked about regionally, nationally and internationally. After 6 years in the federal executive council, Merzig’s 34-year-old father would like to continue to be politically active as district deputy chairman of the CDU Merzig-Wadern and member of the state executive council of the CDU Saar. The economist, who works in the financial sector and initiated the foundation of a small winery, is also involved in supra-political activities. Since spring, Hoffmann has been president of the Saarland Winegrowers’ Association. The 34-year-old father said when he said goodbye to the Federal Executive: “Although I will not run again for the Federal Executive at my request, it is very difficult for me to say goodbye. I leave with tears in my eyes because I have grown fond of the many people, working in the Junge Union has always been a matter of the heart for me and above all because there is still a lot to do. I am very concerned about our national economy and while I am a big fan of Europe, I disagree with every European decision. There’s still a lot to do and I’m ready to get involved. The smiling eye looks at the family, the commitment at home and the prospect of no longer traveling to Germany every weekend in addition to a full-time job in the financial sector,” summarizes Philip Hoffman.

Dr Christopher Salm, who succeeds Hoffmann in the national council, is like Hoffmann before him state vice president of the Junge Union Saar. The 28-year-old lawyer, who has been the mayor of Sozweiler for 5 years and has been a member of the Tholey city council since the last municipal election, wants to work especially to promote networking among young local politicians. “Local elections are about our homeland, our village and our city. This is where the Junge Union can play an active role,” says Salm. After studying law at Saarland University, he received his doctorate in international company law and completed his legal traineeship at the Higher Regional Court of Saarland with offices in Koblenz and Tallinn (Estonia).
