Recently, the actor revealed how he faced rejection to play iconic roles in two films, including the lead role in “Batman Begins.” In an interview on “The Howard Stern Show,” Gyllenhaal shared his experience and the support he received, especially from Christopher Nolan.

Gyllenhaal admitted the frustration of not being cast in “Batman Begins” and “Moulin Rouge,” despite having reached the final stage of auditions. In the case of the latter, the process included Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger and Ewan McGregor, with McGregor being chosen by director Baz Luhrmann. Although both actors were disappointed, Gyllenhaal stressed the importance of staying positive and moving forward.

Years later, Gyllenhaal auditioned for the role of Batman, being the first choice of David S. Goyer, co-author of the script with Nolan. Although he was emerging as a favorite, the role was awarded to Christian Bale. Gyllenhaal recalled receiving a personal call from Nolan, acknowledging his talent but explaining why Bale was a better fit for the role. Despite the rejections, Gyllenhaal felt motivated after speaking with Nolan.

Although he does not rule out the possibility of playing Batman in the future, he is currently promoting his most recent film, “El Duro”, available on the Prime Video platform.
