“In 2008 I had a hit with ‘Een Ster’ and I was fully celebrating that. I then received a call from a very well-known magazine that asked me directly: ‘Are you gay or not?’ I panicked and threw my phone down,” Christoff tells Mathias. “Then the person called my manager and said, ‘If you don’t confirm the news this week, we will destroy his career.’”
This left Christoff with only one option. “I then said I wanted to do it if it was written honestly. I no longer had a choice. In the end it was done very respectfully, and I even helped many people with it,” Christoff continues while Mathias listens in amazement. “Now I’m even glad I did it. I have received many letters about this.”
