The Christmas package campaign from AWO-Freiburg and Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau starts. Gifts and donations for older people who are alone at Christmas or have little money.

Doing good is easy: For the 14th time, AWO and Sparkasse are launching their annual Christmas package campaign. “We want to make old people happy,” explains Petra Winterhalter from AWO-Freiburg: “Many often only have a small pension or are alone. For some, both come together. This often happens, especially at Christmas

➔ If you want to give the gift of joy, you can simply pack a shoebox with gifts – AWO and Sparkasse will take care of the collection like every year. The participating AWO institutions and social services are responsible for distributing the packages.

From November 27th to December 14th, 2023, shoe boxes can be taken with you
Christmas presents will be filled and delivered to all Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau locations as well as to the AWO office in Freiburg-Weingarten.

Senior housing complexes and nursing homes as well as old people who are cared for by the AWO outpatient services in Freiburg, Emmendingen and Denzlingen.
Sparkasse trainees and many other volunteers help with packing
“We have been supporting the AWO in this important campaign since 2009,” explains Beate Schwarz, deputy board member and head of the private customers department at the savings bank.
Given the persistently high inflation, this is more important than ever: “Especially for people with a low pension, the significantly increased cost of food means that they have to go without a lot of things or only rarely treat themselves to something.”
The donated packages will be wrapped for Christmas at AWO-Freiburg from December 12th. On four evenings and one morning with around 25 helpers each. The Sparkasse will take care of the last packing day on December 16th, in the morning. Sparkasse trainees and numerous Sparkasse employees help actively. There have been 13 generations of trainees since the campaign began
took part in the parcel campaign in 2009.
Thanks to donations from the public, around 400 empty shoeboxes can be filled with gifts.
Since the campaign began, around 12,500 Christmas packages have been packed and given away.
Over 130,428 euros in donations from the public were collected. “The numbers are impressive and show that our joint campaign is now firmly anchored among the people in the region,” says Beate Schwarz. “I am myself from the beginning
included. The campaign is firmly in my calendar. I always make time for that.”
No time to put together a package?
➔ “If you simply can’t manage to fill a shoebox with gifts in the run-up to Christmas, but would like to support our parcel campaign, you can also do so with a monetary donation,” emphasizes Winterhalter. “We at AWO-Freiburg will be happy to take over the shopping and packing.”

➔ “Something for the stomach, the skin, the head and for the heart,” says Petra Winterhalter from AWO-Freiburg: “Just give the old people something good when putting together their Christmas package. A few personal lines bring a special joy.”

Delivery of shoeboxes with Christmas presents to the branches, advice centers and financial center of the Sparkasse Freiburg-Nördlicher Breisgau and to the AWO-Freiburg branch, Sulzburger Str. 4, Freiburg-Weingarten.
The campaign flyers and ready-made transfer forms are available in the Sparkasse branches.
What to give away?
For example, tea, coffee, honey, jam, Christmas cookies, stollen, small Linzer cake, pasta, soup, canned sausage, chocolate, puzzle books,
Personal care products etc. – A few nice lines and Christmas greetings or painted pictures and handicrafts that children add to the package as a gift are particularly enjoyable.
Packaging/Organizational:
Please place the gifts unwrapped in a standard shoe box that can be easily closed after filling.
Place the recipient or sender coupon in the top of the shoebox. Please do not pack the box.
All donated packages will be packed for Christmas at AWO-Freiburg from December 12th to 16th.
Submit early!
So that the presents reach the elderly in time for Christmas
When you arrive, please do not leave the packages at the savings bank at the “last minute”. If there are more Christmas packages than were ordered by the facilities and services, AWO-Freiburg forwards them to social organizations in the region, such as the Freiburger Tafel.
And then?
We will inform donors who provide their address or email address on the coupon (see flyer) about the progress of the campaign in January.
