Christmas traffic jam prediction: It won’t be very festive on these roads

Relaxation invites on Christmas Eve, at least in terms of traffic: according to the ADAC, it should be quiet overall on the main roads. This also applies to Christmas Day (December 25).

Since Monday afternoon (December 26), however, slow traffic is threatening again according to the ADAC. After all, many Christmas vacationers return home after visiting relatives and families. However, the traffic volume shouldn’t be as strong as it was at the start of the Christmas weekend.

The winter sports traffic in the direction of the Alpine countries is expected to be slightly lower overall this winter season than in pre-Corona times. Ski holidays are considerably more expensive than in previous years and due to the general energy crisis, several ski areas have increased their prices.

According to ADAC, car trips abroad are easier this year than in previous years, but also much more expensive. Therefore, many are likely to opt for a vacation in their home country.

However, typical winter routes remain potential traffic jams this year. In Austria, these include the Tauern, Inn Valley and Brenner motorways, the Fernpass route and the federal roads of Tyrol, Salzburg and Vorarlberg.
