Christmas shopping is at its peak, Czechs spend up to a billion and a half in e-shops every day

“E-shops are in full swing these days. Less than two weeks remain until Christmas, and sellers and carriers successfully distribute their customers’ orders. Other experiences gained by online store operators during the critical pandemic months are now reflected in the completely smooth course of Christmas. This year, the e-shops managed to streamline the processes of the entire purchase process from order to delivery of goods, so customers receive the ordered gifts quickly and without complications, “comments the current situation of APEK CEO Jan Vetyška.

The current peak of this year’s online sales came on Monday, December 13, during which the total turnover in e-shops attacked one and a half billion crowns.

“The beginning of the week is traditionally the strongest in the run-up to Christmas. Personally, I expect that Tuesday, December 14 and Wednesday, December 15, may approach the record value on Monday, “added Vetyška.

The Czechs liked shopping online during the pandemic, which is confirmed by data from this year’s pre-Christmas period. “Last year, orders were affected by various government measures – especially the closing and opening of stone shops. As a result, Christmas 2020 marked a leap in growth for e-commerce. However, this year is even significantly higher in terms of turnover, ”said Vetyška.

Do not postpone orders

Czechs are increasingly preferring the delivery of goods to dispensing points. They can thus adapt the package subscription to their time possibilities. This was also confirmed by the APEK pre-Christmas survey, when two thirds of people planned to take over most orders from e-shops through various types of personal collection.

Half of them mentioned external dispensing points of logistics companies as their most popular variant of taking over goods, each eleventh mentioned their own e-shop dispensing points, and seven out of 100 people preferred dispensing boxes.

“The popularity of personal collection has been rising for a long time. It is the e-shops and automated boxes that will be available for the biggest latecomers until the last minute, “confirmed Vetyška.

“On the contrary, according to some carriers, it is necessary to order gifts for delivery of goods to a specific address no later than Friday, December 17. In such a case, the goods that are in stock in the online store should arrive under the tree on time, “he added.

Before ordering goods, it definitely pays to wonder if they are in stock. Due to the lack of chips, for example in the field of electronics, the offer is limited in some cases.

“That’s why I would once again advise shoppers not to wait for the order to be sent. The situation is really much more complicated in this respect than in the past, and unfortunately the offer is not so wide, “Vetyška reminded.
