Quarantine for those arriving in Italy over Christmas? The new dpcm foresees it, in some cases, but the EU is skeptical about the effectiveness of the measure: “Restrictions such as quarantine do not contribute significantly to the reduction of Covid transmission in the context of travel. For this reason, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (Ecdc) and the European Flight Safety Agency (Easa) in their guidelines, taken from the Commission’s strategy, do not recommend quarantine and tests in the context of travel in Countries with the same epidemiological situation “. Thus a spokesman for the EU Executive to a question about Italy’s latest measures. The spokesman specified that he did not want to comment on the Italian initiatives, but to speak in general ”.
The new dpcm provides for the obligation of isolation from 21 December to 6 January will also apply to those arriving from EU countries. But there are exceptions. The measure, in fact, does not apply to those who travel for work, for reasons of “absolute urgency, health needs, study needs, return to their home, home or residence”. In this case, however, there will be no total green light. The returning person will be obliged to show the swab. Tourists, on the other hand, will always have to quarantine.
Different situation if you return from abroad by 20 December: in that case to enter our borders from the Schengen countries you will always and in any case need to show the result of a swab made at least 48 hours before. Afterwards, this measure will apply only to those who return to their residence, or arrive in our country for reasons of urgency. For others, mandatory quarantine.
Obligation of isolation, in any case, even for those arriving from non-Schengen countries. According to the dpcm, people who enter Italy from those countries “are subjected to health surveillance and fiduciary isolation for a period of fourteen days at the home or residence indicated”.
