Is there a Christmas miracle in the best football league in the world? In his first game as the New York Jets’ new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers suffered a serious injury to his Achilles tendon. The end of the season and many months of break seemed to be the result.
Since then, the long-time Packers playmaker has surprised us with enormous progress almost week after week. Now he is said to be so far along in his rehab that he probably has a specific comeback date in mind.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, A-Rod can imagine a comeback on Christmas Eve, with the Jets at home against the Washington Commanders in Week 16.
The 39-year-old is said to have sent his teammates a training video of himself, which is said to have “blown them away”. This is seen as a further indication of an early return.
The conditions for a comeback should still be the same. The signal caller has to be able to protect himself, and the Jets have to seriously compete for the playoffs.
The second point in particular is further away than it has been for a long time. In Week 11, the franchise suffered a massive 6:32 defeat against division rivals Buffalo Bills, with Jets quarterback and Rodgers replacement Zach Wilson even relegated to the bench.
There is currently not much to suggest that Rodgers will accept the risk of an early return.
