Alternatively there is a “special kind of concert” as a TV special. Instead of performing in the Wiener Konzerthaus, the artists perform in the Hotel Sacher. At the house concert, Camilla Nylund, Angelika Kirchschlager, Thomas Hampson, Luca Pisaroni and Saimir Pirgu will meet with the Vienna Boys’ Choir.

They are musically supported by the colophonists, the Neue Wiener Concert Schrammeln, Maciej Pikulski and Alma Deutscher, who has set a Christmas text for Thomas Hampson. With songs that the artists personally associate with Christmas, classical and traditional pieces of music, they set an example for community, especially at a time when togetherness is no longer a matter of course. Under the musical direction of Sascha Goetzel, the joint “Silent Night” forms the climax and conclusion – this time in a particularly atmospheric location, St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna. Freelance musicians from eleven nations who live in Vienna have also been invited there.

The two-hour concert was broadcast on ORF II on December 21st. ARTE shows a shorter version.
