Anyone who has been to NYC and down the “wide street” or Broadway walked to the famous Times Square, he will remember the musical theaters he saw along the way, decorated with brightly colored advertising lights, of which there are more than four dozen. The atmosphere of the musical will also be governed by the orchestra Line at this year’s holiday concert.
The first part of the program will present the most beautiful songs from American and British musicals The Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music and My beautiful ladywhile the second part will delight the audience with the most beloved Latvian and foreign Christmas songs, including Raimonda Paula Northern Lights Romance, Ainara Virgas Christmas tree and Aigara Voitiška For candy.
Artistic director of the concerts and orchestra Line chief conductor Valdis Butāns brought together a magnificent lineup of soloists: jazz singer Rūta Dūdum-Ķirsi, actor and opera singer Juri Jopi, young opera soprano Katrīnas Paula Felsberg, musical singer Gustavus Melbārdis and Valtas Butāns , a student of the Riga Cathedral Choir School.
Rūta Dūduma-Ėirse reveals she is looking forward to duet with Gustavus Melbārdis on song Let it Snow: “I really want everything in nature to be white and fluffy on the holidays, covered in snow. And this song makes me hope that it is.” On the other, London Mountview Theater Arts Academy student Gustavs Melbārdis is waiting for a meeting with Katrina Paula Felsberg, a student of the Berlin School of Arts. She says, “Five years ago, we both played a musical together at the VEF Culture Palace my beautiful lady, so coming back to this stage performing some of the songs from this musical together again will be something special.”
His duet with Katrina in the song hello jesus also awaits the youngest soloist of the program, Valts Butāns. At the age of ten he already has a lot of experience in children’s concerts organized by Latvian Concerts and in the programs of the Riga Dome boys’ choir, and last year he won 2nd place at the II International Boys’ Solo and Duet Singing Festival Riga Dome. Valts is learning to sing solo from Anita Šalha – the teacher of Daumantas Kalniņš, Mārtiņš Klišanas and other musicians – and now he is looking forward to his first performance with the orchestra.
