Shortly before Christmas, the SPD member of the state parliament Thordies Hanisch presented the other cinema in Lehrte with a donation of 500 euros. Instead of sending Christmas mail, Hanisch supports institutions in its constituency every year.
“The other cinema in Lehrte is an example of culture, youth work and community in the best sense of the word. The fact that volunteers manage the cinema six days a week and also work out hygiene concepts or deal with regulations is an incredibly great achievement”, said Hanisch during her visit.
Stefan Hilfers, 1st chairman of the non-profit association, is happy about the donation: “We are really happy that people have thought of us. Even in times of pandemics, our wheels never stand still, so we have used the past time to Renovating both the café and the sanitary area, mostly on our own. Such support is great feedback for our work. ”
The member of the state parliament was accompanied in handing over her donation by councilor Reent Stade, who is the cultural-political spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. “The other cinema is a real pearl in the Lehrter cultural landscape. The association’s great commitment deserves thanks and recognition,” emphasizes Stade.
The club was not hit as hard by the economic challenges as private cinemas did. Lars Behrensdorf especially missed the personal encounters: “In the club we not only work together, but also have our circle of friends here. At the same time, contact with the audience was lost for a long time, which makes public relations more difficult than usual.”
The Other Cinema Lehrte is an association that was founded in 1974 and has stood for non-profit, open youth work ever since. It all started with film screenings in a Lehrter break hall. The Other Cinema has been active in the former Lehrter Lichtspiele since 1984. There, around 30 employees between the ages of 16 and 40 run the cinema and café of the only remaining Lehrter cinema on a voluntary basis. Anyone who wants to get involved in work with the counter service, bookkeeping, ordering films, buying drinks or cleaning, is warmly welcomed by the team.
