String works by the most emblematic Italian composers of the Baroque: Corelli, Vivaldi, Locatelli, Torelli and Manfredini will sound in accordance with the aesthetics of the era.

The soloists will also be on stage: Malina Mancheva – baroque violin, Lyubomir Nikov – cello, Teodoros Kitsos – lute, Vasiliy Ilisavsky – harpsichord and instrumentalists from the Sofia Philharmonic.

In the last two decades of the 17th century, Roman audiences were already enjoying the concertos composed by Corelli under the patronage of the young Cardinal Ottoboni. Their publication in a collection (op. 6) only posthumously made them the most inspiring orchestral works for the composers-contemporaries of Corelli. Its popularity has gone beyond the borders of today’s Italy and conquered Europe. The eighth concerto is entitled “Fatto per la notte di natale” and ends with a pastoral in G major, symbolizing the hope for prosperity, light and peace.

Giuseppe Torelli was a contemporary of Corelli, working in Parma, Bologna, Vienna and under the patronage of the Count of Brandenburg-Ansbach. The concerts op. 8 are his last published collection, as No: 6, completes the cycle of six concerti grossi and is dedicated to the Nativity. The remaining six concertos are for violin and strings and follow rather the Vivaldi model. A virtuoso violinist and resourceful composer, Torelli remained true to fashion but often introduced new thematic material to the concertino band part (two violins, cello, lute).

One of his significant students was Francesco Manfredini.

Antonio Vivaldi’s contribution to instrumental music is supported by the vast number of solo instrumental concertos, sonatas and string symphonies that lay the foundations of these genres and offer a richness of ideas, musical structures, combinations of instruments and timbres rarely found in a single composer. from the late 17th and first half of the 18th century. Selected in the program are “Winter” and the E major concerto RV 270 “Concerto il Riposo – per il SS Natale”, which captivates with the beloved Vivaldi ideas, realized in the context of comfort and tranquility associated with the Christmas holidays.
