Christmas carols that threaten Mariah Carey’s throne

Christmas comes earlier every time and seems to completely conquer November. Cities turn on their excessive Christmas lights earlier and earlier, you open Netflix and find it full of Christmas movies from those that take place in a small Vermont town or a small Central European town and right after Halloween, Mariah Carey breaks out on November 1st With all its might.

Everyone knows that Mariah Carey has been, for many years, the undisputed queen of Christmas and carols thanks to her all-powerful song ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ but this year several songs are appearing that threaten her throne and not we refer to Leticia Sabater.

The way we consume music, the way music is bought and monetized, and even the way the success of songs is measured has changed in recent years. We live in the age of streamingfrom Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and YouTube and that changed everything in the music industry.

In the past, the charts were made by combining the sales of records and singles with the number of times a song was broadcast on the radio, but in recent times a very important weight falls on the streams that a song has.

This does songs from the past reappear on the charts like Billboard Hot 100. Mariah Carey herself was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019 with the aforementioned “All I Want For Christmas Is You”a song originally released in 1994.

As of this writing, the song is at number 5 and we don’t doubt it could climb a few more spots in the coming weeks, but there are several songs that threaten its throne.

Both the Billboard Hot 100 and Spotify’s Global Top 50 are filling up with holiday classics that threaten Mariah Carey’s throne and could overtake her in the charts at any moment.

“Rockin Around The Christmas Tree” by Brenda Leeoriginally recorded in 1958 and which regained strength appearing on the soundtrack of the film “The Spirit of Christmas” with Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds.

“Last Christmas”, released by Wham!the group led by George Michael, in 1984 also reappeared strongly in the charts.

So have other mythical songs like “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms‘A Holly Jolly Christmas’ by Burl Ives, ‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year’ by Andy Williams or ‘The Christmas Song’ by Nat King Cole.

For anyone looking to make a good Christmas music session, I’ve rounded up all of these songs and many more from artists like Ariana Grande, Michael Buble, Bruce Springsteen, and The Beach Boys among others in the ultimate Christmas Carols playlist.

Unless the formula Billboard uses to make the Hot 100 changes in the future, it looks like we’ll continue to have Christmas classics resurface every November and December on the list. It also looks like every Christmas the Spotify charts will be full. of these kinds of songs, over the top and saccharine to some but lovely to most.
