Christmas calendars have a strange fate this year –

It’s not even November yet, but Christmas calendars have already been sold.

Some of the Christmas calendars are already going to waste, he says Henriikka Raussi waste online store from Fikruuoa.

Raussi is responsible for Finnish marketing at Fiksuruoa. Fiksuruoka sells waste products at a lower price to consumers.

– Now, compared to other years, we have received Christmas calendars for sale that would have gone to waste much earlier. This is very exceptional, says Raussi.

Christmas calendars can also be found in Fiksruoa’s online store at the moment. The Christmas calendars on sale are chocolate calendars.

– We have never had such a situation before. Our Christmas calendars usually go on sale at the turn of the year, when the season is over, Raussi commented.

Cause of loss

Why are the Christmas calendars already lost?

– That’s a good question. We don’t know the exact answer, but what we’ve seen in sales related to the seasons is that for some reason suppliers have excess inventory, Raussi answers.

In recent years, Christmas calendars have already arrived early on store shelves. Raussi says that selling too early does not seem to be the cause of the losses. The Christmas calendars that are now being sold have a best-before date of 2026.

– Today, stores know how to predict well how much products are needed to sell. It is likely that suppliers have oversupplied Christmas calendars, and due to the current tight economic situation, they do not want to store them in storage, Raussi elaborates.

– That’s why we want to release them for sale to other sales channels.

According to Rauss, the Christmas calendars that go on sale after the season are usually either getting old, the product has left the selection, or its packaging has changed and the old version is no longer available for sale.

Another new phenomenon

In addition to the loss of Christmas calendars, another new phenomenon has been observed at Fiksuruoa.

– In the past, the waste business has traditionally started after the season. We have joked that we always come a little late. We sell Christmas calendars in the spring and Easter eggs on May Day, says Raussi.

– But now the seasons have started to show for us. In addition to Christmas calendars, we have a large number of Halloween candies for sale. The reasons may be the same, i.e. for example, the packaging of the candy may have been renewed.

According to Rauss, the selection of waste food and products is not as abundant before the season as after, but still the change is noticeable.

– It’s exceptional, but at least we now have waste products suitable for the season, says Raussi.

MTV3 Uutiset was the first to report on the matter.
