The principle of this solidarity operation of Christmas boxes Is simple : fill a shoebox of something hot (socks, hat, scarf), from Well (cake, chocolate, tea), of entertaining (game, book, magazine), a hygiene or beauty product and one sweet word. “It’s really festive, it’s giving a gift to someone who will certainly not have a gift”, explains Dominique Parlot, from the Micha etc store in downtown Niort.
People were extremely generous and it was immediate
Rue Saint-Jean, the cellar part of the So Jules bar-restaurant is starting to turn into Santa’s reserve. 17 boxes recovered in a few days, wrapped in colored gift wrap. “People were extremely generous and it was immediate”, rejoices Jules Lachèvre, the owner of the place.
On the package it is specified whether it is a box for a man, a woman or a mixed box. In Niort, the packages collected by these two traders will be handed over to the most vulnerable via the Escale association. An operation which also gives a smile to Dominique Parlot. “If our small businesses which are suffering a lot at the moment can be used in addition to collection points, it is extraordinary. We are closed but we are also used for something else and it is a fine example of survival for us”, says the shopkeeper.
Box deposit is possible until December 9.
