Christmas Basketball: 25th edition, 25 centers, New York and 1,000 coaches

Since its creation, the Christmas Basket has remained true to its values . “And we are concerned about itfollows Gérard Legrand. The promotion of our sport, which in my opinion is still promising and is not highlighted enough, is still a goal together with a special technical level with the support of quality coaches, even a very high level. This year Pascal Angilis, assistant coach of the Belgian Cats, will be supervising the work of the management in several of our centres. We are always changing a little more in the direction of our employees. So for a budget of €200 that we cover for each center, a member of the committee will be present as an additional supervisor to meet all needs. So our volunteers are paid but almost not the registration fee for the course t was not developed in 25 editions (110 € from 2012, for 100 € in 2000, a lower price per number of registered children, or even left at the discretion of the institutions for special cases). Nevertheless we are constantly updating our coaching staff in the various centers to stay at the highest level. We have one coach for every six trainees, it’s a special ratio I think. “

Another strong point of the Christmas Basket is to bring the participants together at a final gathering. “If the course is held from December 23 to 27 (except the 25th), our big gathering will be held for the 5th time at the Salle Gaston Reiff in Braine l’Alleud on January 4th (5pm)adds the Namur technician. With the American style show on the Brainois floor of all the trainers and the Barjots Dunkers show, an amazing show that we never get tired of watching. All this before the Braine-Namur clash in the national women’s D1 at 8:30 p.m. Just before this, we will draw a raffle, and the main prize is a trip led by us to New York (USA) for an intern and one of their parents. (or both with intervention if they wish). They will be able to attend a New York Knicks NBA game at the famous Madison Square Garden.

Each child (or their parent) will receive a raffle ticket in their center (as well as a t-shirt for that day), with the draw taking place on 4th January. The winner must be present however to fly with his family to New York. With a one in a thousand chance of winning. “We hope to reach, or even exceed, the milestone of 1000 trainees this year (960 in 2023)”.
