Christmas at home: a chance for Rimouski?

Could the City or a group of merchants from downtown Rimouski benefit from the dissolution of the festival management corporation? Christmas at our housein Rivière-du-Loup, with the aim of creating a winter event on rue Saint-Germain Ouest?

A major liquidation of its assets will take place by auction, on Sunday, November 3 from 1 p.m., on the site of the former ecocenter, at 100, rue Delage, in Rivière-du-Loup.

Among the items for sale are two floats mounted on hay trailers, marquees and numerous decorative accessories, such as Christmas trees and giant nutcrackers.

The proceeds will be donated to an organization whose mission is similar to that of Christmas at our house.

For the record

Launched in 2006, the event Christmas at our house brought together several thousand participants each fall with its popular Santa Claus parade and holiday market.

The pandemic, however, highlighted a significant lack of volunteers and other organizational challenges, which ultimately proved insurmountable.

Exactly one year ago, the decision to turn off the lights for good Christmas at our house was announced by a transition committee responsible for analyzing its activities and prospects in depth.

Among its 15 recommendations made to the City of Rimouski, the committee formed so that local businesses take advantage of the arrival of Costco suggested creating a winter event on Saint-Germain Street West as well as further decorating the city center by distributing decorations to traders.
