Christmas Activities and Entertainment Ideas for the Whole Family

play games

Some people swear by classic board games or board games, others rely on the Playstation or Wii. But in everyday life there is rarely time for extensive game evenings. The holidays offer an opportunity to get the good old games out of the closet, classics like “Don’t be angry,” “Monopoly” or “Settlers.” Or just pick up the controller and play virtually – alone, on the network, with friends or relatives. Tried-and-tested games like “Mario Kart” or movement games like “Just Dance” or “Wii Sports” should be mentioned.

Listen to music – or even make it yourself

It doesn’t have to be “Last Christmas” (again), but that’s not necessary. The range of Christmas songs is almost unmanageable – from traditional hymn books with evergreens like – Attention, pun – O Tannenbaum, to modern pop songs like “All I Want For Christmas Is You”. Or how about karaoke? Christmas karaoke, of course. Almost the whole family can take part. Anyone who has one can also use Playstation or Wii and therefore “SingStar”. Or use one of the offers on various websites where Christmas carols can be played instrumentally while the lyrics are displayed for singing. A song like “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” by singer Branda Lee can quickly become popular!

Snacks snacken

For many people, eating well is part of Christmas. But it doesn’t always have to be a big menu, small dishes can also be fun. Christmas cookies and gingerbread for in between, potato salad with sausages as a classic on Christmas Eve. And if you have a garden, you can also take your snack outside. With some mulled wine or tea from the thermos, hold savory stick bread or sugary marshmallows over the campfire or fire bowl, watch the flames dance and start talking or even – it’s Christmas after all! – read a Christmas story.

Speaking of marshmallows, how about some “s’mores”? Never heard? So: Roast the marshmallow over the fire, then drape it on a shortbread cookie, cover the marshmallow with a piece of chocolate, for example – the American snack is ready!

Move – at least a little

With all that eating, some exercise and fresh air can’t hurt. In the Hameln-Pyrmont district there are countless opportunities to stretch your legs in nature, be it in the forest, on the Weser or in the Feldmark. How about a little hike? Up to the Hamelner Klüt, to the Bad Münderaner Süntelturm, to the Ithturm between Lauenstein and Bisperode or to the Bad Pyrmonter Spelunkenturm. From there you can enjoy the view and then maybe stop off at a rustic restaurant – which brings us back to eating and drinking.

Recharge your batteries – in the thermal baths

A Christmas like this can be quite stressful. For some it helps just to walk around the square, for others it takes a little more to clear their head again. Especially in the cold season, a visit to the thermal baths is a good idea. This is good for the body and strengthens the immune system. The thermal water contains minerals that have a relaxing effect. Complaints such as cardiovascular disorders can also be alleviated in this way. There are two thermal baths to choose from in Hameln-Pyrmont: the Hufeland thermal baths in Bad Pyrmont (open on Christmas Day from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the Ith-Sole thermal baths in Salzhemmendorf (open on Christmas Eve from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the first and Boxing Day from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.).

Off to church

Some people who never go to church are drawn to a place of worship at Christmas. Nativity plays and Christmas services can make going to church a special experience. Not only is the birth of Jesus celebrated, but with it the emergence of Christian values. Many Christians then reflect on God, family, friends, health and life itself. There are plenty of community Christmas services in the district. To name just a few: A family service with a nativity play takes place in the Hameln Minster Church on Christmas Eve at 3 p.m., and a cantata service in the Hameln Market Church on Boxing Day at 11 a.m. In the Bad Pyrmont district of Holzhausen there will be a Christmas musical on Christmas Eve at 3 p.m. in the St. John’s Church. And on Christmas Day, for example, the Christ Church invites you to a Christmas service with a choir at 10:15 a.m.

Party and music

Anyone who, despite all the contemplation, is in the mood for Remmidemmi or at least culture can get their money’s worth in the Weserbergland at Christmas. In any case, there is no shortage of events. A few suggestions: In Hameln, for example, the traditional pre-Christmas party “Waiting for the Christ Child” party will take place in the Swampflower on December 23rd from 10 p.m., and on Christmas Day at 4:30 p.m. the Jazzy Pyrmont Ensemble in Bad Pyrmont will be holding a “Christmas -Jazz” concert, on Boxing Day at 4.30 p.m. Rondo Pyrmont plays “Christmas Classic” – both events take place in the Wandelhalle.

Cozy on the sofa

Christmas dinner is over, friends or relatives have said goodbye, you’ve already been to a church service or a concert – now it’s time to put your feet up. For example, by devoting yourself to your favorite films or taking the time to watch films that you have always wanted to see – beyond classics like “Home Alone” or “The Little Lord”. Of course, several holidays in a row also offer a good opportunity for a series marathon on one of the streaming services. Picking up a good book is no less attractive for bookworms. Then the film plays in front of your mind’s eye.

Resolutions – something different

The new year is just around the corner, so the holidays can be used to pause, reflect on the year and make plans for the new year. Some people take on a lot of things. Eat healthier, stop smoking or do more exercise – who doesn’t know it? But the implementation of good intentions often doesn’t go far. Often after a short time everything is back to normal. Psychologists advise setting smaller goals. Less is sometimes more. It’s better to set small, realistic goals that continue to motivate you rather than giving up straight away, rather than setting the bar too high from the start.
