The cabaret artist Christine Prayon no longer works for the “heute show”. In the satirical show on ZDF, Prayon had embodied the character of Birte Schneider since 2011, her last appearance was in September last year. In an interview with the weekly newspaper “Kontext”, she said that she had initially stopped appearing because of a post-vac illness, but would not return to the show.
She explained this decision by saying that the “heute show” had changed in her opinion. Societal issues have been treated increasingly one-sidedly since the corona pandemic, said Prayon. She did not want to participate in “ridiculing those who think differently”. Satire should not participate in “narrowing the discourse”. However, this is happening more and more often, also in view of the war in Ukraine. “I’m not at all a friend of satirical shows anymore, whether it’s Böhmermann, ‘Anstalt’ or anything else,” said Prayon, who had also worked on “Anstalt” in the past.

At the request of the FAZ, ZDF only sent a short statement on Prayon’s statements. The cabaret artist ended the collaboration at her own request. “We really appreciated the cooperation and leave the door open for further performances.”
