(Vatican News) The efforts of the Jesuits in Central America to carry out a wide-ranging pastoral work in universities and among immigrants has allowed the missionaries to be close to people and to the situation of the Nicaraguan people. In this country, the Jesuits continued their work despite the revocation of their legal personality and the confiscation of the Mesoamerican University. Faced with this situation, how did the Jesuits respond to the Nicaraguan government? “We want dialogue, return of property, guarantees that we can stay in Nicaragua, annulment of sentences and measures that violate human rights, such as denationalization and exile,” said Fr Tehera. Dialogue is essential in situations of repression that lead to escalation of conflict.”
