Christian-Taoist Dialogue in Hong Kong: Extinguishing Violence and Igniting Peace through Constructive Dialogues

The final statement of the Christian-Taoist dialogue held in Hong Kong from March 11 to 13, 2024 revealed that through constructive dialogues with mutual respect, the fire of violence and conflict can be extinguished and the candle of peace and harmony can be lit.

Religious scholars and believers gathered together on the topic of developing a united society through inter-religious dialogue. The aim of the conference was to convey a message to the fragmented world in our era where societies are marked by conflict and sectarianism. The conference emphasized the message that through respectful and constructive dialogue, we can extinguish the flames of violence and conflict and light the candle of peace and unity. The conference ended with more conviction than ever to talk, walk and act together. The conference took decisions on three things: meeting, awakening of spiritual energy and cooperation.

meeting

The gathering led to an encounter with the Divine Mysteries through debates, religious scriptures and liturgies and what their saints and gurus taught. Both religions in their own way try to remove the restlessness of the human heart. Therefore, we should approach the indescribable divine mystery with an open and humble heart, widening our minds and hearts.

Awakening of spiritual energy

Spiritual energy must be awakened to build a united society. Kindness, justice, simplicity, solidarity and generosity have to be recovered to awaken the spiritual energy in religious people.

Cooperation

Let’s work together to build bridges, tear down walls and sow seeds of love, respect and hope through prayer and education. The conference closed with thanks to the Holy See’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, the Hong Kong Taoist Organization, and the Hong Kong Roman Catholic Diocese.
