Freiburg (dpa) – Coach Christian Streich from SC Freiburg feels with his defender Matthias Ginter, who is no longer nominated for the national football team, but does not blame national coach Hansi Flick. “It’s a shame for Gindes, you’re sad and angry, but it’s always about how to deal with it,” said Streich on Thursday. It had previously become known that Ginter was not in the squad for the German national team for the friendlies against Japan on September 9th and against France on September 12th.
Flick called both the player and him, reported the coach of the Baden Bundesliga club. “As a coach, you often have to make unpopular decisions,” said Streich, “but that doesn’t rule out anything for the future.”
With a good performance in the upcoming Bundesliga away game at VfB Stuttgart on Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky), Ginter was “a bit closer to the next nomination,” said Streich. After all, “Hansi knows exactly what Gindes can do.”
At the sports club, they are very happy with the 30-year-old. “There’s no question that he’s stable,” said Streich. Ginter returned to his home club from Borussia Mönchengladbach in the summer of 2022 and immediately became one of Freiburg’s top performers again.
