Christian Seifert expects the audience to return at the start of the season

DFL boss Christian Seifert firmly expects the audience to return at the start of the new Bundesliga season. “I currently see few reasons not to gradually return to normal operations for major events of any kind in the second half of the year,” said the DFL’s managing director picture.

“This is about the fundamental rights of people and companies. There were good reasons to temporarily restrict these,” explained Seifert: “But there are now more reasons to gradually withdraw these restrictions.”

The new season of the Bundesliga starts on August 13th, the 2nd division starts on July 23rd. At the current European Championship, fans are already allowed in the arenas, in Munich, for example, 14,500 spectators are allowed. This corresponds to an occupancy rate of around 20 percent.

Seifert referred to Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands and France, where 50 to 100 percent capacity is planned after the European Championship. “There the incidences are sometimes higher and the health system is certainly not much more modern than in Germany,” said the 52-year-old. In addition, “internationally, as far as I know, there is not a single indication that a major event with vaccinated, recovered or negatively tested people poses a greater risk”.
