It’s finally (almost) over. Christian Pulisic’s career at Chelsea is coming to an end. Some would say it arrived six to twelve months after the actual expiration date, but better late than never, right?
Pulisic’s spell at Stamford Bridge is over, and it will be remembered with mixed emotions, from the highs of a Champions League title to the lows of… just about everything else. This post-mortem was written over the last few months. Now is the time to focus on the future.
And that future, it is almost certain to take place at AC Milan. Pulisic is set to join another giant of European football, with the Rossoneri agreeing to pay an initial fee of €20m (£17m/$22m) to secure the superstar’s services American.
It is almost certain that he will make a financial sacrifice to join Italy, as few non-Saudi clubs pay their players at a level close to that offered by Chelsea in the current market. But, in almost every other area, Milan are in a better situation than Chelsea at present.
The Italian giants can offer the Champions League, which is always a good thing. They offer an exceptional lifestyle, with Milan remaining one of the most prestigious clubs in the world. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, they offer Pulisic the chance to get playing time, which he never got at Chelsea.
