Christian Fuchs isolates itself outside of New York

Ex-national player

Christian Fuchs experiences the coronavirus pandemic in the USA in complete isolation. The former Austrian team captain left the apartment in Manhattan with his wife and three children over a week ago and moved to the family country house with a large garden and no neighbors in the wider area, about an hour and a half away by car.

A few hours after the interruption of the Premier League was announced on March 13, the Leicester City professional was already on the plane to America. Coach Brendan Rodgers had given his players permission to be with their families and distance themselves from football.

Logically, Fuchs is only marginally concerned with the “most important minor matter in the world” at the moment. “In this situation I am only interested in the fact that my family is doing well. At the moment I am not in the mood for football,” said the Lower Austrian.

“Of course there will be a damper”

The Premier League is currently officially suspended until April 30th. Nobody believes that the game will start again on this day, but as a precaution, Fuchs has booked his return flight for April 7th. “We’ll see how it goes on. But it doesn’t matter whether you continue to play or not. Now everyone has to see that they stay healthy,” said the left-back.

Nevertheless, Fuchs can well imagine that the financially strongest league in the world will somehow bring the season over the finish line. “Because there is so much money behind it and so many jobs depend on it. Leicester City alone has a few thousand employees.”

The 33-year-old also does not believe that the millionaire Premier League will suffer serious and lasting damage from the coronavirus crisis. “But of course there will be a damper.”

“Rodgers really wants to keep me”

It cannot be completely ruled out that this damper also has an impact on Fuchs himself, after all, the contract of the 78-time ÖFB International expires in the summer. “But if Leicester plays in the European Cup next season, you need a big squad, so it’s hard to cut back. And Rodgers said to me he really wants to keep me and we will definitely be able to work something out, so I’m in this one Relaxed respect, “said Fuchs. His club is currently in third place and is therefore fully on course for the Champions League.

In his role as an entrepreneur, Fuchs is probably more affected by the pandemic. His soccer schools and sports complex near New York City have now closed. “Unfortunately we had to part with quite a few employees,” said Fuchs.
