Group B matches Euro 2020 between Denmark vs Finland at Parken Stadium, Copenhagen, Denmark, 12 June 2021, is a match that will be remembered. There was a sad incident when Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.
The fateful moment occurred towards the end of the first half. Eriksen suddenly fell to the ground, struggling to breathe, until finally passed out.
His colleagues came to help, the medical team followed later. Panic began to attack the entire stadium. Tears were also seen in the eyes of several supporters, including his wife.
Five minutes later, the efforts of his colleagues paid off. Eriksen started to breathe and opened his eyes. He was able to regain consciousness, and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital.
After being taken to the hospital, Eriksen apparently suffered a heart attack on the pitch. The moment that almost took his life was apparently not remembered at all by the Brentford player.
To the BBC, Christian Eriksen admits he doesn’t remember at all why it fell down European Cup at that time. He only remembers his last moments before his collapse, and the moment he regained consciousness on the pitch.
“I can remember everything apart from those five minutes. Apart from that, I remember everything, the throw-in, the ball hit the knee and then I don’t know what happened after that,” he said.
“Then I woke up with people around me and felt pressure in my chest, trying to control my breathing. I didn’t really understand what was going on.”
“I don’t know what happened. Then it went through my head. “Did something happen to my leg? Is my back broken?”
“Then in the ambulance I heard someone ask me how long I had been unconscious and someone said, ‘Five minutes. It was the first time I heard I was dead.”
“I was away from this world for five minutes, until they got my heartbeat back. But I still can’t believe it was me,” he said.
Christian Eriksen then a pacemaker is placed afterward. He started training again, but was terminated by Inter Milan, because he could no longer compete in the Italian Serie A. Then, Eriksen officially moved to Brentford.
Eriksen thanked all who helped him during his collapse. He said he was grateful to be helped because of them.
“I was lucky with the people around me who acted so quickly. I’m so grateful to the doctors, they got me back as quickly as they did. I’m 100 per cent grateful for that,” he said.
“The first thing is to show gratitude, to the people around me, my teammates, the doctors on the field, the team of doctors and paramedics and then at the hospital. Then all the messages from people to show support for me and what what my family has been through,” he said Christian Eriksen.
