Christian Cueva ends his cycle at Alianza Lima: club will assume the costs of his medical process

Christian Cueva’s time at Alianza Lima comes to a close, marked by physical challenges that have determined the club’s decision to dispense with his services. The midfielder, who returned to the team in 2022 from Al Fateh in Saudi Arabia with the intention of contributing significantly, was affected by knee injuries that relegated him from activity during several stretches of the season, including the finals against Universitario.

After a discreet performance and without managing to recover his previous level, Christian Cueva leaves the Victorian club. The decision, according to RPP journalist Kevin Pacheco, has already been made in the institution and will be officially communicated in the coming days to the footballer’s entourage. It should be noted that Alianza Lima, in addition to dispensing with his services, will assume the costs not only of the necessary operation for Cueva, but also of the subsequent recovery process for him.

In his own words on Twitter, Pacheco clarifies: «Christian Cueva will not continue in Alianza Lima. “In the coming days, the club will meet with the player’s entourage to communicate the decision and evaluate the expenses related to the player’s operation and recovery.”

The knee injury, which affected the midfielder’s performance since his return to Alianza Lima, was revealed in a press conference by Juan Carlos Oblitas, sports director of the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF). This problem, not previously disclosed by the club, was pointed out by Oblitas as the reason behind Cueva’s absence from the Peruvian national team call-ups.

«In the case of Christian, I have spoken with him. He has a knee problem; he can play, but he also limits him for jobs. That’s why he is not in the best physical condition. “Perhaps he has not done the right thing with the issue of the Peruvian team, so his non-call is a purely technical issue,” explained ‘El Ciego’ Oblitas, providing details about Christian Cueva’s physical condition.
