Michel Blanc, a key figure in French cinema, died on October 3 at the age of 72, following a series of heart attacks caused by an allergic reaction to a medication taken before a routine medical examination. A sudden and unexpected departure which aroused the emotion of his loved ones and admirers.

Among them, Gérard Jugnot was one of the first to react publicly, expressing his sadness, just a few hours after the tragedy was announced. Others, on the other hand, preferred to experience their mourning in a more discreet way, in silence and privacy.

It was only four days after the funeral of Michel Blanc that Christian Clavier chose to come out of this silence to pay tribute to his friend. The funeral took place at the Saint-Eustache Church in Paris on Thursday October 10, 2024, followed by a final farewell at the Père-Lachaise cemetery. A photo shared by Christian Clavier on Instagram shows a young and smiling Michel Blanc, with this sober but poignant caption: “Always with us.”

A childhood friend

He was not just a simple work colleague for Christian Clavier, but a childhood friend. And their friendship spanned the decades. It was on the benches of the Pasteur high school that they met, he, Michel Blanc, Gérard Jugnot, Marie-Anne Chazel and Thierry Lhermitte.

This complicity, which would give birth to one of the most famous troupes, Le Splendid, was established very early. As Christian Clavier told “Parisien”: “We sat next to each other (editor’s note: with Gérard Jugnot in 3rd grade) and we started the stupidity contest. We weren’t hooligans, but we passed little lines under the table to make our friends laugh. At the end of the German lesson, the teacher looked at us and said, “Both of you, never together again.” It was prescient.”
