Christian Berkel is a guest at the Mainfrnkisches Literaturfestival

On June 8th, the Mainfrnkische literature festival “MainLit” starts its second round. This year too, MainLit can start with a balanced and varied program. Literature enthusiasts have the opportunity to take part in 41 selected readings until June 26th. Members of the independent literature scene in Wrzburg, important initiatives and nationally known authors ensure great entertainment and offer a cross-section of the contemporary literature scene.

Don’t miss: Chrsitian Berkel is coming on June 19th

Among the important personalities from politics, social criticism and entertainment literature who took part, one particularly stands out: Christian Berkel. The author, born in West Berlin in 1957, is one of the most famous German actors. Berkel has worked on numerous film productions and has been awarded the Bambi, the Golden Camera and the German Film Prize, among others.

In addition to his outstanding acting skills, Christian Berkel has proven to be an absolute narrative talent. After the auto-fictional novel “The Apple Tree” from 2018, he builds on the story with the follow-up novel “Ada”, which was published last year. In it, Berkel tells the rousing story of his parents, but above all that of his half-Jewish mother.

The economic miracle, the building of the Berlin Wall, the 1968 movement and the complex story of a young woman

In the novel, Berkel describes his mother’s flight to Argentina with his fictional sister Ada in 1945 and their later return to the Federal Republic. It’s about Ada’s courage to break the silence of the parents’ generation about the past and the resulting inner psychological turmoil of this young woman.

In the still young Federal Republic of Germany, Ada’s dark past is a book from which adults have simply torn crucial chapters. In the middle of the economic miracle, she is looking for the parts that can be put together to form an identity. In doing so, she encounters a void of silence and forgetting. Ada doesn’t want a miracle, she wants a family and she finally wants to get to know her father, but then everything turns out differently.

Against the backdrop of sweeping historical events, Christian Berkel tells of guilt, love and the longing to finally arrive. With this captivating story, he once again proves himself to be a captivating narrator.

Immersive open-air entertainment and more tickets

Special times require special measures. In addition to the extensive hygiene concept, some MainLit events will also be relocated outdoors.

That means not only open air feelings, but also more space. So if you want to immerse yourself in the world of Ada, you’re in luck! Tickets are still available for the reading by the author Christian Berkel on June 19, 2021: www.main-lit.de/events/2021/ada
