Former Chelsea player Christian Atsu confirmed dead. Atsu was one of the victims of the devastating earthquake that rocked Turkey recently.
Previously, the certainty of Atsu’s fate was confusing. Initially, it was reported that Atsu was safe but was later denied.
In the end, after more than a week the body of the Hatayspor player was found under the rubble of the building he lived in. Atsu passed away at the age of 31.
“Christian Atsu has been found and it is a pity that he has passed away,” the player’s agent, Murat Uzunmehmet, was quoted as saying AS.
On February 6 at dawn WIB, an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck southern and central Turkey and parts of Syria. Report Reuters The latest reveal, until now the disaster has claimed at least 45,000 lives and is believed to still increase.
Atsu joined Hatayspor only in September 2022 with a one year contract and an option for another year. The Ghana winger has made four appearances in all competitions with one goal contribution.
That goal won Hatayspor 1-0 against Kasimpasa in the Turkish League on 5 February 2023, or the day before the disaster. The goal that marked Atsu’s final goal and final appearance.
Christian Atsu started his career with Porto before joining Chelsea in 2013. Atsu then went on loan to clubs such as Everton, Malaga and Newcastle United. In 2021 Atsu moved to Saudi Arabia by joining Al Raed, before being recruited by Hatayspor.
