Updates zu Raphinha, Messi & Co.
In a detailed interview, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta spoke, among other things, about the transfer plans of the Catalans – and revealed that an agreement has already been reached with newcomers. “We have two players in the bag whose contracts are expiring, players to negotiate with,” Laporta told Catalan radio station Tu diràs „RAC1“.
The 59-year-old did not want to reveal the specific names. In all likelihood, the new signings will be Chelsea centre-back Andreas Christensen (25) and AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessié (25), two free professionals with a total market value of 80 million euros.

Barça are also reportedly very far in their efforts to sign Leeds United attacker Raphinha (25). The newspaper “Sport” had reported that there was an agreement between the club and the player on a five-year contract. The Brazilian “is a great player,” said Laporta. They have a good relationship with their agent, former professional Deco, who played for the Catalans from 2004 to 2008. This “does his job and informs us about details so that we don’t make any mistakes”.

The Barça boss did not want to close the door on winger Ousmane Dembélé (24), whose contract ends in June, and drew a comparison with midfielder Sergi Roberto (30), who could also go on a free transfer. “We made him an offer and he didn’t take it. We love him and see him as a good player. If we reach an agreement, it will be within the salary limits that we have set for ourselves. I say that with respect, but the agent (Moussa Sissoko; ed.) is full of surprises. It made us a little dizzy,” Laporta said.
A return of Lionel Messi (34), however, the fans of FC Barcelona can probably make up. A commitment from the Argentine superstar for the new season is not an issue, Laporta hinted. “The truth is we are not considering that at the moment. We are building a young team that works with experienced people and creates a good symbiosis that works.” Laporta does not speak to Messi, there is no personal contact and he has not received any message from him.

FC Barcelona: Laporta wanted João Félix – Spotify best sponsorship deal
The president also claimed responsibility for the failed contract extension with the club’s longtime figurehead. “It certainly wasn’t easy for me, but in this case I thought the institution came first and I couldn’t put it in any more jeopardy. I think we did what we had to do.”
Laporta is enthusiastic about Atlético Madrid’s João Félix (22). He would have liked to see the attacking player from Portugal in his own ranks. “I like Joao Félix very much, his agent has known it for a long time. He’s a great player, I told Atlético Madrid that too. We tried to get him in the summer.” The Rojiblancos would have refused.
The club boss also described the deal with music streaming market leader Spotify as “the best shirt sponsorship deal in Barça history”. The Spanish press agency EFE reported up to 70 million euros for each of the four years, but part of the distribution is linked to the sporting performance of the financially troubled Catalans.
