Slightly worse than in 2021, but definitely better than a few years ago. This is the summary of the report published by UOKiK on the inspection of fuels sold at stations in 2022.
The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection has released a full report on the quality control of fuels offered at stations in 2022. According to the document, out of 1903 inspections of all types of fuel, 21 samples were detected whose parameters did not meet the requirements set out in Polish regulations. This means that the percentage of irregularities was 1.1 percent.
It’s a great result. W 2021 r. a record 1.0 percent was recorded. abnormalities. Previously, however, such good results were not the norm. In 2018, the fuel was non-compliant with the standards at 3.9 percent. stations, and in 2015 the percentage of irregularities amounted to 5,3 proc. So it’s safe to say that fuel at Polish stations is safe. However, much depends on what we fill the tank with. Here are the detailed results.
Diesel:
- Municipal Transport Company, province Silesia, Katowice, ul. Francuska 78 – low flash point;
- Marcin Filipczyk, province Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Reszel, ul. Bolesława Chrobry 5B – lowered oxidative stability parameter;
- Mega-Tech, province mazowieckie, Płock, ul. Sierpecka 1 – lowered oxidative stability parameter (first and second test);
- Hurtpetrol, province Greater Poland, Granowo, ul. Poznańska 82 – low flash point;
- Our, province Masovian, Gabryelin, ul. Polna 6 – low flash point;
- Orlen, province dolnoslaskie, Walbrzych, ul. Wysockiego 43 – too high water content;
- Avia, province mazowieckie, Warsaw, ul. Płochocińska 33 – lowered oxidative stability parameter (first and second test);
- benzene, province Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, Biała Piska, ul. Mickiewicza 26 – lowered oxidative stability parameter.

Nissan Ariya – everything seems great, but …
Gas:
- Valdi, province Świętokrzyskie, Opatów, ul. May 1, 66 – incorrect vapor pressure;
- Olkop, Poland kujawsko-pomorskie, Strzelno, ul. Wyszyńskiego 50 – incorrect vapor pressure.
LPG:
- MARK-GAZ, province mazowieckie, Warsaw, ul. Conrada 7 – too high parameter: testing the corrosive effect on copper;
- Shell, voivodeship mazowieckie, Warsaw, ul. Sokratesa 11 – too high parameter: testing the corrosive effect on copper;
- Orlen, province Pomeranian, Gdansk, ul. Grunwaldzka 258 – too high parameter: testing the corrosive effect on copper;
- Municipal Cleaning Company, province Lesser Poland, Krakow, ul. Nowohucka 1 – too high parameter: testing the corrosive effect on copper (first and repeated tests – too high sulfur content in the second test);
- Orlen, province mazowieckie, Sokołów Podlaski, ul. Węgrowska 6 – parameter too high: evaporation residue (first, second and third test);
- Oasis, province Silesia, Bielsko-Biala, ul. Komorowicka 285 – too high parameter: testing the corrosive effect on copper, too high sulfur content.
As is easy to see, the largest number of irregularities concerned diesel oil and LPG. Most often, such cases occurred at small stations, but in 2022 it was negative Orlen. Three stations of the Polish concern appeared in the checklist of UOKiK. One of them had irregularities detected during each of three consecutive inspections.
What can be the result of refueling with substandard fuel?
In the case of diesel fuel, inadequate oxidative stability translates into corrosive action and formation of deposits or carbon deposits. Excessively high ignition temperature causes a decrease in engine performance, and therefore a simultaneous one combustion increaseand also contributes to higher emission of harmful substances during combustion. Too low a flash point creates risk of oil vapor explosion during refuelling.
In case of LPG inadequate amount of substance after evaporation leads to excessive wear of filters and reducers. Too high sulfur content corrosive to the exhaust system and adversely affects catalyst. A similar effect has a fuel that does not meet the standards in the field of corrosive action on copper plates.
Damage to the engine after just one tank of substandard fuel is probably rare. Regular refilling of the tank with such fuels will, however, lead to excessive wear of engine components or the exhaust system. Recovering money from the petrol station owner for the damage caused is not easy, and often turns out to be completely impossible, if we don’t have a receipt. So it’s always worth taking it with you after refueling.
