Christen Middle School Briefly Placed on Safe Status During Federal Suspect Search

LAREDO, Texas – Christen Middle School was briefly placed on “Safe” status on Wednesday, November 15 after federal authorities were seen searching the area for a suspect.

According to an LISD spokesperson, the “safe” status was precautionary due to an issue near the school.

A safe state is for when there is a threat in the area near a school. This was previously called “lockout”.

LISD was informed that the suspect was found.

KGNS contacted Border Patrol, who confirmed that agents saw a suspicious vehicle at Shea Street and Vidauri Avenue.

Preliminary reports indicate that when officers approached, several people were seen fleeing the car.

The Border Patrol activated its Air and Marine Operations and a helicopter was seen near the area.

The agency is asking the community to report any suspicious activity in their area.

Border Patrol has not confirmed whether anyone was detained or if the incident was related to illegal activity.
