Alfredo Morelos regularly generates headlines, but is often portrayed in a negative light.
That has not been the case in recent days, as the Colombian has received applause for his decision to stop playing after an opponent was injured.
During Thursday’s 5-2 win for Rangers against Royal Antwerp in the Europa League at Ibrox, Morelos found himself in a promising position.
The 24-year-old had a chance to jump into goal or play on a teammate, but instead abruptly stopped the procedure with defender Jérémy Pierre Gelin in pain on the touchline.

That act has now been applauded by former Celtic Chris Sutton, who often delights in wiping out the Ibrox faithful.
Speaking on the ‘Sensational, Fun, Shocking’ segment of BBC Five Live, he said: “You won’t believe this, but it’s who has been sensational.
“And he’s Rangers star forward Alfredo Morelos, now known as Alfredo el Grande.
“In Thursday’s Europa League, Alf and Jérémy Gelin were running after a ball when the Antwerp defender stopped with a hamstring injury.

“Instead of heading towards the goal as most players would, Alf stopped the game and allowed the Antwerp medical team to enter the field and treat the player.”
Sutton couldn’t resist the temptation, however, adding: “A noble act of sportsmanship, but our Alfie was disappointed with a desperate dive in the second half and the Rangers received their 237th penalty of the season.
“Anyway, well done Alf, that was great, actually it was sensational.”

Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku, whose brother Jordan played in midfield with the Belgian team, posted a tweet during the match that read: “Fair play to Morelos from Glasgow Rangers. Going to the goal and stopping due to an opponent’s injury… great sportsmanship «.
After a weekend off, the Rangers return to action Wednesday night when they face Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
