Saturday Night Live is pulling out all the stops as it prepares to celebrate its monumental 50th anniversary. The legendary sketch comedy show is welcoming back some familiar faces to grace the Studio 8H stage before culminating in a primetime special marking the milestone on February 16.
Leading the charge is a duo of former cast members, Chris Rock and Martin Short, who will return to host in December. Rock, a cast member from 1990 to 1993, will take on hosting duties on December 14 with musical guest Gracie Abrams.
“"Saturday Night Live" is about to bring retired players back to their old stomping grounds.
Short, famous for his quirky characters like Jiminy Glick, will follow suit on December 21, joined by musical guest Hozier. Short’s tenure on the show was brief, spanning only one season in 1985, but he has maintained a strong connection to SNL, hosting multiple times in the past.
Kickstarting the December lineup is Paul Mescal, the breakout star of Gladiator II, who will make his SNL debut on December 7 alongside musical guest Shaboozey.
Rock is a seasoned SNL host, having previously steered the ship in October 2020, November 2014, and November 1996. This upcoming hosting gig will mark his fourth time leading the show. Abrams, meanwhile, will make her SNL debute fresh off the release of her album The Secret of Us.
Short is a SNL hosting veteran, having previously hosted solo twice, in December 1996 and December 2012. He also hosted alongside his fellow Three Amigos stars Chevy Chase and Steve Martin in December 1986 and reunited with Martin in December 2022 for another hosting stint. Hozier, known for his hit "Take Me To Church," will be making a return to SNL, having previously performed on the show in 2014.
As SNL gears up for its 50th anniversary, the return of these comedic titans promises a season filled with laughter and nostalgia.
