Yesterday there came an article on FilmTotaal, which stated that none other than Chris Pratt the beloved game character Mario is about to voice a Super Mario animated film. However, not everyone agrees with this, so now Pratt decides to bite the bullet.
The actor received a lot of criticism online. For example, some think that he is not the right actor, since he has no Italian roots. Others find it unacceptable that Chris Martinet, the voice of Mario, is not getting the part.
Response
Pratt, best known for his role as Starlord in several Marvel films, explains in an Instagram video why he went for the role. He says that as a child he was always obsessed with Super Mario.
He even stole coins from a wishing fountain to restore the original arcade game Mario Bros. to play in a local amusement park. Pratt also leaves Mario’s catchphrase, “It’s-a meee!” but says he will use a different voice for the film. Watch the video below.
In addition to Pratt as Mario, the voice cast also includes Charlie Day as Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
