It’s a small sentence that is likely to get a lot of people talking. Invited to a Goldman Sachs conference for small businesses, Chris Paul revealed that he considers himself the (minority?) Owner of a retired NBA franchise.
“I would like to be part of an ownership group after I’m done playing,” he said of his plans once he put his shoes back on.
If the current 37-year-old point guard of the Phoenix Suns is talking about a bunch of owners, it’s because the price of NBA franchises has skyrocketed in recent seasons and we can’t do more, as Michael Jordan did with the Charlotte Bobcats in 2006, taking over a team for $ 275 million.
Now the prizes have been multiplied by at least six, and even though Chris Paul has earned more than $ 400 million in career salaries, he doesn’t have enough personal luck. He will therefore have to join forces… perhaps with his great friend LeBron James, who also wants to buy a franchise (or create one in Las Vegas) when he retires.
