The Oscars were held at the end of March, and that was when the dramatic event between Will Smith and Chris Rock took place.
When Rock told a joke about Smith’s wife, the actor went up on stage and gave Rock an earful. Almost a month later, Rose Rock opened up in an interview with the news channel WIS in South Carolina about what happened to the son.
Thought the battle was staged
Rose told WIS that this was the one year she should not show up at the distribution, but rather follow the broadcast from home.
When her son received a slap in the face from Smith, she first thought it was all staged. She thought so until the actress started shouting, according to the news channel.
– When he beat Chris, he beat us all. He really hit me, Rose said in the interview.
She then added that the comedian should have been happy to give an Oscar to Questlove, which won the category Chris announced. But he was taken from that moment because of the battle of Smith.
– No one even heard his speech. No one was able to just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there wondering what was happening.
Banned from Oscar
As a consequence of the battle, it was decided that Smith would be denied participation in Oscar events until 2032.

Following the award ceremony, Smith went public on social media apologizing for his behavior. In apology, the actor has also written a personal message to Chris Rock.

Commented on the battle itself
