In September 2016, we wrote about departure from Blizzard Entertainment after many years of work by Chris Metzen, one of the people who shaped the franchise in the early days of Blizzard Devil, Warcraftwhat Spaceship. Today on the Twitter profile of the general manager of the second of these brands, John Hight, there was information about Metzen’s return to work with World of Warcraft.
I am pleased to announce that Chris Metzen has joined the management team Warcrafta as a creative consultant. Initially, he will focus on World of Warcraftbut his work will extend to other projects of this growing brand.
Chris was part of the team that originally worked on the universe Warcrafta in 1994, and we’re very happy to bring him back to the world he helped create.
Metzen’s return is quite interesting left Blizzard at his own request after 22 years of service. He later admitted it wasn’t due to a leap into other activities, but rather a desire to retire early. Evidently family peace wasn’t what he was really after, because shortly thereafter he announced that he would be working on board games.
By the way, Chris Metzen is also known for voicing many characters created by Blizzard, such as Thrall (Warcraft) or Bastion (Overwatch). His announced return, however, is mostly about creating content for games.
It’s worth adding that Metzen, along with another former Blizzard employee, Ryan Collins, is by the author “paper” RPG in the system Dungeons & Dragons named Auroboros: coils of the serpent. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the project went through several releases.
