On Sunday, January 22, Hipkin was confirmed as the new Prime Minister. Hipkins stressed the government would shift its focus to day-to-day issues such as New Zealand’s inflation and look at the government’s control of other decisions without interfering.
“We will look at all these issues. In the coming weeks you will see clarity about the change in priorities. I am very optimistic, I have received a lot of support. I think New Zealand give me a fair chance,” commented Hipkins.
Hipkins is expected to officially take up the post on Wednesday, when previous Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern officially steps down. The Prime Minister announced her resignation on January 19.
