Chris Cuomo sues CNN for $125 million for ‘wrongful termination’ | Univision 41 New York WXTV

In an arbitration lawsuit filed by his legal team, journalist Chris Cuomo is demanding $125 million from CNN, claiming that by wrongfully firing him, the network tainted his “journalistic integrity” and that he is still owed $15 million in salary and bonuses.

cuomo, who was fired by CNN in December after an investigation into his efforts to help his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, respond to allegations of sexual harassment, he is demanding the millionaire figure in an arbitration filing.

The $125 million includes damages for breach of contractlost wages and what he says was an assassination of his character following an “unjustified” dismissal in December.

“As a result of Turner’s indefensible decision to fire him without notice, Cuomo has been harmed in countless ways,” states the arbitration lawsuit filed Wednesday by Cuomo attorneys Freedman + Taitelman LLP and Clayman Rosenberg Kirshner & Linder LLP.

They assure that the form of dismissal risks their journalistic future

“Cuomo’s journalistic integrity has been unjustifiably smeared, making it difficult, if not impossible, for Cuomo to find a similar job in the future.”add that demand.

Cuomo’s $125 million lawsuit is divided into “consequential damages” of no less than $110 million for alleged “breach by Turner and CNN of the express terms of the Settlement.”

While the additional $15 million figure is essentially what Cuomo and his lawyers say they were owed under the contract that was still in place at the time of the Dec. 4 firing.

Chris Cuomo’s firing came after he was suspended “indefinitely” at the end of November. At that time CNN explained that the dismissal was due to the fact that the journalist used his position to help his brother Andrew Cuomo in the middle of the sexual harassment scandal which led him to resign this year, according to a report by Attorney General Letitia James.

“Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information that came to light about his involvement in his brother’s defense. We retained a respected law firm to conduct the review, and we have fired him, effective immediately“, underlined the chain’s statement.
