Cuomo has been described as CNN’s biggest star by The Washington Post. Now CNN has fired him with immediate effect.
–
Earlier this week, Cuomo was suspended from CNN indefinitely.
The background was new information that the public prosecutor in New York has revealed as part of the investigation of his brother, New York’s former governor Andrew Cuomo.
The governor’s brother resigned in August after allegations of sexual harassment. The documents the investigation has revealed show how the CNN anchor has consulted his brother during the case.
In a statement Saturday night, CNN writes:
“We hired a reputable law firm to review the documents, and have fired him with immediate effect. During the process, new information has been revealed. Despite the dismissal, we will conduct a proper investigation.
Earlier this week, CNN said that Cuomo had told them that he had given advice to his brother, but that the new documents indicate that he has been more involved in his brother’s projects than the channel had been given the impression of.
Cuomo: “Could not have been more proud”
Cuomo himself writes in a statement on Twitter that this was not such an end he wanted for his career at CNN.
– But I have already told you why and how I helped my brother. While this is disappointing, I could not have been more proud of the team at Cuomo Prime Time and the work we did as CNN’s number one program in the most competitive broadcast time, he continues.
– I owe them everything and I will miss the group of special people who really did important work.
