According to a report published Wednesday poll from Ipsos/Reuters, Christie had just 2 percent support among Republican voters. According to almost half of those voters, former President Trump is the best candidate to take on Joe Biden in November.
Trump’s other challengers also don’t seem to have a chance, but are still in the race. Nikki Haley is second with 12 percent, ahead of Ron DeSantis (11 percent) and Vivek Ramaswamy (4 percent). Previously, Trump’s former Vice President Mike Pence, among others, dropped out of the race.
Christie, 61, said last week that despite his low popularity he was not considering quitting the race. “Anyone who thinks I’m dropping out of this race is crazy,” he said in an interview with MSNBC.
Christie already tried to become the Republican presidential candidate in 2016. Then he lost to Trump, whom he subsequently supported. He hoped to become Trump’s running mate and vice president, but that became Pence.
Since the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, Christie has become a fierce opponent of Trump. His second campaign was mainly intended to become an alternative to Trump. Of all the opposing candidates, he spoke out most strongly against the former president.
