Jakarta –
One of the diaspora players U-17 Indonesian National Team Chow-Yun Damanik definitely can’t appear on 2023 U-17 World Cup. He was hampered by passport problems.
Chow-Yun currently does not have an Indonesian passport. Because both of his parents were foreign citizens when the player was born.
Born in Yverdon-les-bains, Switzerland, on August 24 2007, Chow has Indonesian, Togolese and Ivorian blood. Her mother is Indonesian, but is a Swiss citizen who married a Togolese-Ivorian man.
“For Chow-Yun Damanik, the passport issue does take time. “Both of his parents are Swiss citizens,” said Bima Sakti U-17 National Team Coach to reporters.
“His mother is Indonesian but already has a Swiss passport. If Chow-Yun Damanik has to get an Indonesian passport, I don’t know about this,” he added.
Without these obstacles, Bima Sakti admitted that he was interested in Chow-Yun’s abilities. Unfortunately, the player was hampered by administrative problems which made him unable to defend the U-17 national team.
If he wants to become an Indonesian citizen (WNI), Chow-Yun must give up his passport from his home country. Indeed, he has Indonesian blood, but from two foreign parents.
“Chow-Yun Damanik had to give up his Swiss passport. We can’t have two passports. “This is different from countries that have rules about being allowed to have two passports,” said Bima Sakti.
“Even though we really need him, he is very good. So Chow-Yun Damanik had to give up his Swiss passport,” he said.
