“Apart from protecting the skin from UV rays, using sunscreen can also inhibit premature aging and prevent skin cancer,” said Vayanadela Murbarani as Brand Representative Unitary in her official statement, Thursday (7/9).

Consumers need to pay attention to two things, namely the SPF claim and the type sunscreen. The content of sun protection factor (SPF) is important to consider and identify as a sign of the ability of a sunscreen product to block ultraviolet rays.

SPF is usually listed on the packaging label and has different levels. SPF 15 can only block 93 percent of UVB radiation for 2.5 hours outdoors. While SPF 30 is able to withstand 97 percent of radiation with a resistance level of up to five hours.

Finally, SPF 50 is highly recommended if we are traveling or have jobs that often require us to be outdoors.

Sunscreen with SPF 50 can hold UVB rays up to eight hours.

“Now we need to be more careful in ensuring the SPF content of the sunscreen,” he continued.

Recently, skincare lovers were shocked by the fake SPF scandal that was exposed by Ericiko, a blogger who is active on TikTok.

The blogger uses lab machine tests and human skin tests to measure the value of the SPF content in sunscreen or sunblock. After the test results came out, some sunscreens did not have the SPF value advertised.

Some sunscreen brands that claim an SPF of 50 actually have an SPF of less than 50 and some even higher than 50.

This content is enough to make netizens excited because they are worried that the sunscreen they use contains fake SPF.

Therefore, it is very important to check the SPF value of the sunscreen we are going to buy. Do not carelessly choose a sunscreen brand, because it is a very important protector for the skin.

“Then how do you choose a good quality sunscreen? The best way is to choose a sunscreen that has a brand testing report by an organization with high integrity,” he stressed.

Judging from the current data, world-renowned cosmetic raw material suppliers include BASF from Germany, Royal DSM from the Netherlands, Evonik from Germany, Givaudan from Switzerland, Dow Chemical from the United States, Firmenich from Switzerland, Solvay from Belgium, and Lonza Switzerland.

Consumers can ensure the effectiveness and safety of sunscreen by checking whether the UV filter used in the sunscreen comes from a reputable supplier.

Among these cosmetic raw material suppliers, the most famous UV filter agent is Royal DSM from the Netherlands. With 40 years of experience in the production, selection and raw materials of sunscreens, Royal DSM is an internationally renowned chemical company with the number one UV filter in the world.

One of the products that use Royal DSM supplies is Unitary. French brand founded by Dr. Sophie, a marine biologist whose research focus is the protection and sustainable development of the marine environment.

“We are fully committed to the transparency of the value of sunscreen content and are actively providing official inspection reports and BPOM certificates regarding the value of sunscreen, therefore Unitary is the right choice for skin protection from the sun,” said Vayanadela.

He also advised consumers to choose a sunscreen that suits their skin type and is environmentally friendly.

Stanford University research published on May 2, 2022, found that oxybenzone and micro-nano zinc oxide, ingredients that are commonly found in sunscreen products and the like, contribute negatively to the health of coral reefs.

“If you don’t know which sunscreen is right for your skin type, then choose Unitary’s sunscreen, which offers sunscreen products for dry skin types, oily skin, mixed skin, and sensitive skin. Unitary is also committed to protecting the sea and coral reefs,” he concluded.(esy/jpnn)
